One Oscar Nomination for Match Point

Posted by Riikka on 31 Jan 2006 ... 10 Comments

Today, nominations for the 78th Annual Academy Awards were announced but sadly Scarlett Johansson was left without a Best Supporting Actress nomination even though she was originally being heralded as a frontrunner by many critics. However, Match Point received a nomination for Writing (Original Screenplay) so congratulations to everyone involved with the film!

Two new The Black Dahlia stills have been released. One of them we've seen before in a magazine clipping but it is the first time I've seen it in high quality! I've also added three HQs from the Lucky Number Slevin After Party from a couple of days back and even more sex-ay shots from the Golden Globes After Party.

Other participating celebrities include Ewan McGregor, Nia Vardalos and Jennifer Garner.

The album will be released on 28th March 2006. All proceeds from the project will benefit Music Matters, the Los Angeles Philharmonic's fund for music education.

Posted by Riikka on 25 Jan 2006 ... 3 Comments

Scarlett will grace the cover of the March 2006 issue of Vanity Fair magazine. She will be featured in the annual Hollywood photo portfolio for third time in a row. Apparently this will be a nude in a group portrait of Hollywood’s "beauties-of-the-moment", including Scarlett, Keira Knightly and Rachel McAdams and was shot by Tom Ford in November 2005. View further details here. The issue will be out 7th February 2006.

Also, Yahoo! News reports that Scarlett will receive a $4 million paycheck for being the new face of L'Oreal's HIP hair colour range. "It's wonderful to be working with L'Oreal, a company that has celebrated independent women for years. I'm very excited to be part of this campaign which is modern and fashion forward," Scarlett said.

SNL Shots & Filmography

Posted by Riikka on 21 Jan 2006 ... 4 Comments

I updated the filmography. You can now find all of Scarlett's upcoming projects there. I will be making individual pages for each one of them as more information will be available.

I also added HQ shots from the super cute SNL Promos. Thanks to Gman for these!

Site Changes & SNL Clips

Posted by Riikka on 20 Jan 2006 ... 0 Comments

As you may have noticed, I have been updating the site recently and I figured it was time to make an announcement regarding it. Mel has decided drop her status as the webmaster of Scarlett Johansson Fan so I am in the process of taking over. No need to worry, Mel will still stay on as a co-webmistress, helping me out when she has a free moment.

I am 22-year old film student reciding in Scotland. I have been a huge fan of Scarlett's since her lovely performance in Lost in Translation. Some of you may know me from such sites as Glamour Reese Witherspoon and Eva-Amurri.com. I have big plans for Scarlett Johansson Fan. In the few upcoming weeks I will be updating each section of the site, adding tens of video clips and photos and giving the site a make over.

To celebrate the UK release of Match Point, I uploaded 10 video clips from Saturday Night Live. I know you guys have been eager to see them so head over here and check them out. Scarlett's a riot!

Elle February 2006 Scans

Posted by Riikka on 18 Jan 2006 ... 0 Comments

I have added scans from the February 2006 issue of Elle (UK Edition).

Edit: I added 65 screencaptures from both the Golden Globes award gala and the red carpet interview, including the already infamous 'grouping' incident. Video clips will follow. View images here.

Black Dahlia Stills

Posted by Riikka on 17 Jan 2006 ... 0 Comments

I have added three new The Black Dahlia stills to the gallery, including a scan from the newest issue of UK's Total Film. Scarlett looks absolutely stunning as Kay, I truly can't wait to see the film!

Edit: I have added 39 new HQ photos from the Golden Globes to the gallery. View images here.

Golden Globes Coverage

Posted by Riikka on 16 Jan 2006 ... 0 Comments

Unfortunately the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture did not go to Scarlett this year. Rachel Weisz got it for her performance in The Constant Gardener. But still, as Scarlett recently said, she was not expecting anything and it is an honour to even be nominated.

Either way, it was great to see her out and about. Scarlett wore a stunning red scoop neck Valentino dress with soft ruffles on the straps and on the back. I added the 14 first HQs to the gallery. She looked red hot in the super sexy dress!

I also added nearly 600 captures from the weekend's Saturday Night Live. Yeah, I went a tad cap crazy but she was so adorable. Video clips will follow shortly.

Gallery updates + Golden Globes reminder

Posted by Mel on 16 Jan 2006 ... 0 Comments

I uploaded and added at least 500+ old event pictures of Scarlett, mostly from the years 2003, 2002 and 2001 - please click here to see the last uploaded images! More will be following soon. If anyone can provide videos and captures from SNL (I unfortunately could not watch it since I am from Germany) please contact me.

Don't forget that tonight's the night - and I am speaking of the Golden Globes! Check back tomorrow for pictures from the event (let's hope Scarlett wins the award for "Best Supporting Actress"! *fingers crossed*). I cannot wait to see what she wears!

Regis & Kelly captures added

James Ellroy on 'The Black Dahlia' adaptation

Posted by Maria on 12 Jan 2006 ... 1 Comments

As you may remember James Ellroy hasn't been exactly thrilled with the movie adaptation of his novel 'The Black Dahlia'. Now, a guy called Jim reports in the 24LiesASecond Forum about his encounter with James Ellroy at the TV Critics Association convention in Los Angeles. Quoting:

"As has been reported elsewhere, he has indeed come around since his earlier disparaging public comments during pre-production of The Black Dahlia. Since then, he has seen three hours of dailies, and has had this to say about what he saw: The dailies were visually amazing and beautiful. He mentioned that a simple shot of a squad room was so well composed, it was like you had never seen a squad room before. The film is a reduced version of his novel, but manages to cohere. It does not have a Citizen Kane-like structure of flashbacks, as has been reported. Josh Hartnett is a "revelation." His characterization of Bucky is dead on. The film may be finished for a Cannes screening, but it also may not. It will be released in the U.S. in the fall, at which time Ellroy plans to actively take part in its publicity."

The Late Show captures added

Posted by Mel on 11 Jan 2006 ... 6 Comments

Life Magazine Scans added

Posted by Maria on 10 Jan 2006 ... 1 Comments

I've added the Life Magazine scans, issue December 23, 2005. I'm sorry for the quality of the last scan - but they sticked something like an ad card to the back of exactly the page with a Scarlett photograph on the other side...

By the way, I've added most of the recent online articles & interviews to the Press Archive and am currently updating the transcripts from magazines. Expect those soon!

Saturday Night Live

Posted by Riikka on 08 Jan 2006 ... 12 Comments

Thanks to Andrew for letting us know that Scarlett will host Saturday Night Live next Saturday, 14th January 2006. The musical guest will be Death Cab For Cutie. View the SNL website for further information.

Andrew also informed us that Scarlett was voted #12 on Much Music's (Canada) "Who To Do List" A list based on looks, and success. Well done, Ms. Johansson!

Co-Web(s) needed + gallery updated

Posted by Mel on 05 Jan 2006 ... 3 Comments

I am currently looking for co-web(s) for this site. As you probably know, Scarlett's current schedule is HUGE and I just don't have the time to keep up with everything - not now, and probably even less in the future. So that's why I would like to have some people who help me out with posting news, images and keep the site updated in general. Don't worry, I am NOT abandoning SJ.org, but I definitely see no other solution. You must know FTP, HTML, coppermine, have good graphic skills & enough free time in which you can work on the site and obviously be a fan of Scarlett. Experience in running a fansite would also be a plus. ;) If you are interested (and I really hope someone is, lol) please email me with a sample of your work, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks.

Concerning updates, I added quite a few new additions to the gallery, I don't have the time to list everything here but you can check out the last uploads here. ;) And here are 2 interviews/articles I found interesting:
- Scarlett from the heart
- Woody Allen's leading lady

L'Oreal confirms Scarlett Johansson deal

Posted by Mel on 05 Jan 2006 ... 11 Comments

Scarlett Johansson's multi- million deal with L'Oreal has been confirmed.
The actress will be the face of the new colour line: HIP High Intensity Pigments.
According to Woman's Wear Daily the deal is worth $3million and the company hope to generate $50 million of sales in the first year. Johansson said:" It's wonderful to be working with L'Oreal, a company that has celebrated independent women for years.
"I'm very excited to be part of this campaign, which is modern and fashion forward." (Source)

News updates

Posted by Mel on 02 Jan 2006 ... 3 Comments

I finally managed to see Match Point, and I have to say I really liked it - Scarlett was amazing as usual! She had less screentime than I expected, but the time she could be seen she lighted up the screen. Her role has a lot of facettes and she definitely managed to show them all. Unfortunately the German dubbings were pretty much awful, and this took away quite a lot from me. I guess I really have to see it again in English. Oh, and I really really liked Emily Mortimer's performance as well. :)

On to the news. ;) Scarlett was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Match Point at the Chicago Film Critics Awards which have been announced on Dec 31 and the award show will be held on Jan 9. Scarlett is up against Amy Adams, Maria Bello, Catherine Keener, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams.

Secondly, Scarlett was named the #2 Best Dressed by calgarysun.com for 2005: "That Woody Allen has declared her his new muse is not surprising. She’s beautiful, she has that raw, throaty voice and she dresses impeccably.
Sure, she has the occasional misstep every now and then. Who doesn’t? Like when her hair (white) matches her skin (soooo white).
That’s no good. But mostly, she dresses like a respectable starlet in classy gowns paired with cute shoes and makeup to die for.
But she better watch her back, because Canadian Rachel McAdams is just as pretty, poised and talented.
And Woody Allen is nothing, if not fickle. "

And lastly, Scarlett is featured on the cover of the current Portrait magazine which is an awesome online magazine, so check it out! We have also won "Site Of The Month" there, so thank you Kat!

Some news & gallery updates

Posted by Mel on 31 Dec 2005 ... 14 Comments

Scarlett came in at #13 on the STARmeter Top 25 for 2005, just above Christian Bale and below Jennifer Aniston:
Snarky producers tried to blame her and co-star Ewan McGregor for not turning The Island into a big summer hit, but she serenely and glamorously moved beyond the mess to become -- of all things -- the new muse for Woody Allen in the acclaimed Match Point, which grabbed her a Golden Globe nomination.

There are rumours that Scarlett moved into Josh Hartnett's New York apartment - I don't know if that's true, but since there has been so much speculation about it I at least wanted to mention it.

Scarlett will be featured in Life magazine this month - you can see a preview of the new shoot here. If anyone has the scans - I'd love them! ;)

And lastly, I finally found some time to add the pictures from the Match Point press conference - click here to see them, and I also uploaded 3 shiny new HQ movie stills from The Man Who Wasn't There.

Match Point photo call pictures added & news

Posted by Mel on 28 Dec 2005 ... 12 Comments

I have uploaded 30 RQs & HQs from the photo call for Match Point in Italy, click here to see them. Previews below! I am going to see the movie tomorrow, and I must say I cannot wait! I will certainly let you know what I thought of it when I come back. (I could NOT go because of all the snow we currently have to face here in Germany, and no cinema here decided to screen the movie either. Pfffffh.)

Various articles have been posted about Scarlett crediting her success to being a New Yorker: "I live and breathe New York. I am who I am partly because of the way I was raised and partly because I was raised here. My parents told me and all my siblings that it was fine to express ourselves and whatever we were feeling and thinking, and that's a very New York mentality. There's a comfortable-in-your-own-skin quality that New York puts in you." (Source)

Here are 2 new Match Point related interviews/articles that I found interesting:
- Inside "Match Point" with Scarlett Johansson
- Perfect “Match”: Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers

And lastly, here is a great article in which Scarlett talks about her future projects, Amazon ("'Amazon' is something my mom is producing and it's in development now," Johansson says. "There's no script, there's nothing. It's just storyboard and development.") and "Napoleon and Betsy" ("I've been attached to that project for so long, I can't even remember how long it's been," Johansson sighs. "It's difficult. It's been through a lot of hands. At first, it was a definite script with certain producers and then they ended up really kind of massacring the idea. But it's such a brilliant story and it's public domain, so we've decided to develop the sort of movie we could actually make. That's being written right now."). But she is definitely doing The Prestige, The Nanny Diaries & Borgia in 2006.

This and that...

Posted by Mel on 23 Dec 2005 ... 3 Comments

I have uploaded 20 HQs and RQs from the Match Point premiere in Rome, and I gotta say that Scarlett looked gorgeous! I really like that style! :)

Beverly Hills 213.com has a brand new article/interview with Scarlett up, and the site even features 2 new pictures. I was in contact with the man who interviewed her, and he told me he had mentioned this site to Scarlett and that she seemed flattered and confirmed that she has been on the site before and knows it. So how cool is that?

There have been rumours recently that said that Scarlett has refused to be the new Bond Girl - appearantly they are still looking for an actress to play the role. Dark Horizons and FilmForce both have a new interviews with Scarlett, so go check them out.

This is probably my last update in 2005 because I will take a break from this site during the Christmas holidays. If there is anything important I will of course post it, but don't count on other regular updates. See you in 2006! ;)

'Celebrity' Scans incl. new The Black Dahlia picture

Posted by Maria on 21 Dec 2005 ... 3 Comments

I've added 5 scans from the January 2006 issue of German magazine Celebrity. The most interesting part of the article is a new picture from The Black Dahlia that I put in the respective category.

Customs snag Scarlett Johansson`s dress

Posted by Mel on 21 Dec 2005 ... 1 Comments

Actress Scarlett Johansson went to the British premiere of 'Match Point' in a backup dress because the gown she planned to wear was confiscated by customs.
The star walked the red carpet at London`s Leicester Square Sunday night in a demure and and elegant navy Dolce & Gabbana dress, the Daily Mail reported Monday.
'I didn`t plan to wear this dress,' Johansson, 21, told reporters. 'The one I wanted to wear was flown in today but it was confiscated by British customs,' she explained.
Johansson said director Woody Allen frowned on the revealing dress she wore to the U.S. premeire of the film.
'Woody doesn`t like anything I wear,' she said. 'I think he would prefer me to wear the white wrap dress I wore in the film all the time.'
There`s no immediate word on why British customs confiscated the dress. (Source)

Johansson eyes L'Oreal deal - RUMOURS!

Posted by Mel on 18 Dec 2005 ... 3 Comments

Scarlett Johansson is following in the footsteps of Beyonce Knowles, Milla Jovovich and Andie MacDowell, by signing up to promote haircare giant L'Oreal.
The Lost In Translation beauty, 21, modelled in Calvin Klein and Louis Vuitton campaigns last year, and now she's reportedly planning to embark on her biggest endorsement deal to date.
A source says, "It's going to be a massive multimedia campaign, and Scarlett is making over $4m (€3.3m) for her services.
"One thing you'll probably see is Scarlett trying out a lot of different hair colours and not just her trademark platinum blonde look." (Source)

Gallery updates & new Match Point videos

Posted by Mel on 16 Dec 2005 ... 3 Comments

I did a nice gallery update, here's a quick overview about what has been added:
- Match Point Podcasts (captures) (x48)
- Match Point clips (captures) (x96)
- Special "Match Point" Screening (Dec 14, 2005) (HQ + RQ) (x32)
- Magazines - KinoPark (Russia) - August 2005 (HQ) (x3) (credit: Olga)

So as you can see Scarlett went to a special screening of Match Point, probably to celebrate the Golden Globes nominations. I must say that she looked amazing! Really glamourous. I'd say that's definitely one of her best looks this years, what do you think?

Coming Soon.net has the videos of which I made captures of - 5 new Match Point clips and some (great) podcasts of the Match Point actors which are really worth a watch! And if you want to know what Scarlett's reaction to her Golden Globe nomination was click here.

New movie role & Match Point premiere pictures added

Posted by Mel on 09 Dec 2005 ... 4 Comments

I know it's incredible, but Scarlett has (according to Variety) signed on to another new movie project!
"Scarlett Johansson is in negotiations to join Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman in "The Prestige," the next outing for "Batman Begins" director Christopher Nolan.
Bale and Jackman play rival magicians in early 1900s London who battle each other for trade secrets. Johansson will play a magician's assistant named Olivia who is sent to spy on the competition. The film also has attracted Michael Caine and David Bowie.
The movie is scheduled to shoot in January with a budget in the $40 million range.
The Walt Disney Co. will distribute the film domestically, while Warner Bros. will handle it internationally."
Read more here and here.

So here is her current shooting schedule (thanks Maria!):
Prestige – January
The Nanny Diaries – February
Borgia – April
Amazon – June
and Napoleon & Betsy for which the shooting has not been announced yet.

Furthermore our busy bee has attended the premiere for Match Point yesterday, and she looked fantastic! I love her dress! I have uploaded 46 RQs and HQs so far, take a look at them here or see the previews below.

Scarlett Johansson Set for Indie Napoleon and Betsy

Posted by Mel on 07 Dec 2005 ... 2 Comments

According to Variety, Scarlett Johansson will star in the indie pic Napoleon and Betsy, which Benjamin Ross will write and direct.
Avi Lerner, Moshe Diamant, Melanie Johansson and Alexandra Milchan will produce.
The pic centers on the true story of Napoleon's last years on St. Helena as seen through the eyes of an English girl with whom he falls in love.
Napoleon and Betsy was first pitched nearly two years ago and at one time was set up at Lions Gate.
(Source: Movie Web)

Sounds familiar? It seems like they got a new writer. I honestly must say that I'd love it if this movie would finally be made. I think the story sounds awesome and I consider this definitely a better project than Amazon, lol. So let's keep our fingers crossed!

New scans added

Match Point news & new magazine scans added

Posted by Mel on 03 Dec 2005 ... 3 Comments

According to Contact Music, Scarlett admits that shooting a convincing love scene in the English field (for Match Point) proved to be a lot tougher than she'd anticipated because she has a wheat allergy. She says, "It was raining so we were wet, and we had to reshoot it several times. On top of that, I have a wheat allergy, which meant it was not great rolling around in a cornfield!"

Besides thanks a lot to Annika for sending in scans from the September 2005 issue of the German Glamour magazine! You can see the scans here, or check the previews below. :)

Scarlett will be on the cover of the January 2006 issue of Elle magazine - thanks so much to Hugo for letting me know and even providing me with the cover picture (which you can check out here - or see the preview below.) I have also added some other new pictures in the past few days, I started to upload all the unknown magazine clippings I had saved on my computer, the rest will follow soon.

celiana posted in our forums that The Black Dahlia will be shown at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, which will run from Thursday, 1.19.06 through Sunday, 1.29.06. (fake info, sorry)

Scarlett NOT in "The Sound Of Music"

Posted by Mel on 27 Nov 2005 ... 5 Comments

Composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber is mounting a reality TV talent search to find an unknown to star in his forthcoming stage revival of The Sound Of Music, after Scarlett Johansson turned down the part.
Lord Lloyd-Webber decided to approach BBC TV bosses after Johansson confirmed she would not be taking the lead role of Maria in the musical, made famous by Julie Andrews in the 1965 movie version.
And Lloyd-Webber hopes the reality TV search will find a suitable replacement for his production, which will be staged in London's West End.
Dan Ian, the stage show's co-producer, says, "We think this could be an interesting way of casting someone who is not known yet but who has enormous talent and we hope it will break new ground."

Johansson booked for 'Nanny' job

Posted by Mel on 11 Nov 2005 ... 3 Comments

I couldn't believe it when I read the news, but appearantly Scarlett will star in another new movie - she currently is in negotiations to star in "The Nanny Diaries," an adaptation of the best-selling novel about a college student who works for a family from hell. Scarlett would play the aptly named Nan, who juggles the Park Avenue household's marital woes, her classes, a romance and a spoiled kid.
Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, who wrote and directed 2003's "American Splendor," are in talks to direct the film from their adaptation of the book by former nannies Nicola Kraus and Emma McLaughlin. The Weinstein Co. project is eyeing a February start date in Toronto and New York. I have to say that this project sounds quite good, and I really hope the movie will be made. :)

ANOTHER new role for Scarlett!!!

Posted by Mel on 07 Nov 2005 ... 14 Comments

Johansson to Play an Amazon Warrior
Moshe Diamant's Signature Pictures has made a deal to finance Amazon, a vehicle for Scarlett Johansson to play a gladiatrix from 200 B.C. who exacts vengeance on an army that destroyed her homeland. Variety says that Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain will write the script.
The trade adds that the idea for Johansson to play an Amazon warrior came from the actress, who mentioned it to screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci while they worked together on The Island. That duo will produce with Melanie Johansson, Gilles Arondeau and Alexandra Milchan-Lambert.
They drafted Blackman and McCain, who just wrote Outlander, a period Viking saga that McCain will direct for Ascendant Pictures and The Weinstein Co.; production on that project starts next June in New Zealand.

Woody Allen titles London movie

Posted by Mel on 06 Nov 2005 ... 6 Comments

Director Woody Allen's second film to be shot in London, due for release in summer 2006, will be called Scoop.
The film had been known as Woody Allen Summer Project. Trade website Screen Daily said it was "a light comedy about sex, love, suspense and murder".
Like his previous London-set film Match Point, screened at Cannes in May, Scoop stars Scarlett Johansson.
The American actress plays a journalism student who investigates a series of murders while studying in the capital.
Hugh Jackman and Ian McShane co-star, as do actors James Nesbitt and Colin Salmon - both of whom can also be seen in Match Point.
Allen appears himself as a man posing as Johansson's father. (...)

A new role for Scarlett!!!

Posted by Mel on 03 Nov 2005 ... 6 Comments

Johansson & Farrell Board Jordan's Borgia
Neil Jordan will direct Scarlett Johansson and Colin Farrell in Borgia, a long-gestating drama about the internal struggles of the most powerful family in 15th century Rome, reports Variety.
The trade adds that Jordan has written a script filled with betrayal, backstabbing and murder, within a family that aspired to be the most powerful clan of the Renaissance.
In 1492, the Pope dies and Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia emerges as the top contender to head the Vatican, despite a litter of illegitimate children. When he gets the papal throne, Rodrigo moves to consolidate his power thereby empowering and alienating various members of his family.
Johansson will play Rodrigo's daughter Lucrezia Borgia, who's torn between her family duties and a desire to find true love. Farrell will play Rodrigo's youngest sun Cesare, a duplicitous and manipulative sibling who considers himself his sister's closest confidante.
Production will begin in April. (Source: Coming Soon.net)

In other news, a new layout will be up soon, probably still in November! Stay tuned.

Then, I also capped and uploaded around 8 new albums to the news segments which includes mostly promotion for The Island (I can't wait for the DVD!) and lastly, I added new HQs from The Oscars 2004 and 2005 and the Golden Globes 2005. Take Back TV

Posted by Maria on 11 Oct 2005 ... 9 Comments

On October 6 Scarlett Johansson took part of the 'Take Back TV' concert that was held to promote Al Gore's Current TV. Following information from NYUNews.

Information about the event:
The "Take Back TV" event, which will travel to Philadelphia on Oct. 24, featured musicians Lauryn Hill and De La Soul along with other musical acts, poets, artists, celebrities and a large video screen displaying Current TV's diverse programming in between performances. It also incorporated Current TV's political sway, displaying a cartoon clip mocking President Bush's handling of Hurricane Katrina and the introduction of Gore by actress Scarlett Johansson as "the man who really won the election."

I'm still looking for non-watermarked pictures of the event. With Mel gone (for the moment) I'd appreciate any help  Thanks.

Information about Current TV:
Broadcast into more than 20 million homes, 24 hours a day, Current is dedicated to providing news, political coverage and youth-oriented and produced programs in a quick segment format, according to Current TV's website. Gore said he wants young people to use the channel as a medium for political change. "We are going to de-feudalize the public sphere," Gore said. "When America was created, it was based on the idea that people could talk about anything and hold the government accountable. TV doesn't do that - Current TV allows you to do that." ... New York fashion week is as much about who's in the front row as about the clothes. But while every second designer has Paris Hilton, only Roland Mouret can boast of Scarlett Johansson.
The hottest property in Hollywood made an appearance at the stellar Mouret show (September 13) but so dressed-down the audience barely recognised her. The 21-year-old actress struck up a friendship with London-based Mouret after ducking into his King's Road studio while trying to escape the British paparazzi. Mouret dressed her for the Golden Globes and the Oscars. She looked fabulous, he became a household name.
The key to Johansson's charm is also the key to Mouret's success. Unlike most actresses her age, Johansson is not a size six twiglet: she is voluptuous like an old-fashioned screen goddess. Moure pioneered the return of the hourglass figure which is currently setting tills alight this autumn. (The article continues here.) I just uploaded 19 regular size photos of the event the article talks about here. Previews are below. :) I also added 2 new photo shoots (Set #11 & Set #12) and 57 pictures from the "Bruce Almighty" premiere in 2003 (including HQs!). We have 2 new sound clips from The Horse Whisperer as well - thanks to Maria for them! :) Enjoy the updates! I am going on another trip until Tuesday, so see you when I return. ;)

Scarlett Johansson may sing 'The Sound of Music'

Posted by Mel on 11 Sep 2005 ... 3 Comments

Actress Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in talks with 'Evita' composer Andrew Lloyd Webber to star in a new stage version of 'The Sound of Music'.
According to femalefirst quoting the Daily Mail, in the musical, the 'Lost In Translation' star may play singing nun Maria - the role made famous by Julie Andrews in the classic 1965 film.
Sources informed that Webber thinks that Johansson will be perfect for the part, as "She sings well, certainly as well as anyone else."
The 'Sound of Music', which will be staged at the London Palladium theatre next year, tells the story of a nun who is sent to look after the seven Von Trapp children in wartime Austria. (ANI)

Johansson Speaks out about Junkie Romance

Posted by Mel on 30 Aug 2005 ... 11 Comments

Actress Scarlett Johansson has spoken out about a relationship with a cocaine addict, which put her off dangerous men for good.
The Hollywood beauty, who is now with Pearl Harbour actor Josh Harnett, admitted that she found it hard to trust her former boyfriend, whose name she did not mention, and that she always felt that she came second to his love for the drug.
In an interview with US style magazine Cosmopolitan she commented, "It was horrible. I won't allow myself to get involved with someone like that again because you're never as important as the drug: "You can't trust them, and you never know where they are. They lie. Every time they blow their nose, you're like, 'Hmmm.'"
But the The Island star insisted that not all of her relationships were as disastrous - one of her first boyfriends is still a close friend.

Movie News & Gallery updated

Posted by Mel on 30 Aug 2005 ... 4 Comments

There's not much to report at the moment, so I thought I'd do a little research on the release dates of Scarlett's upcoming movies:
Match Point (US): December 25, 2005 (limited)
A Good Woman (US): Sept. 16, 2005 (New York); Sept. 30, 2005 (Los Angeles)
The Black Dahlia (US): 2006 (exact date not available yet)
Untitled Woody Allen Project: 2006 (exact date not available yet)

Besides, expect a new press archive soon - one that includes a LOT more articles and magazine transcriptions than the current one has. And for now feel free to check out the 120 photos & HQs I added from the gallery. I'm still not sure if I like that dress, but oh well. She still looked great. :)

News & gallery

Posted by Mel on 23 Aug 2005 ... 31 Comments

I'm back everyone! *waves* And unfortunately I have some sad news to report. On Scarlett's trip to California on August 19, her Mercedes hit another car as the paparazzi chased her.
"According to eyewitnesses, she was driving near the tourist attraction's entrance with two pals, when she swerved to get away from pursuing photographers and hit another vehicle containing a woman and her two young daughters.
An onlooker says, "The front of Scarlett's Mercedes damaged the side of the other car pretty badly. Scarlett looked really shaken up and when both cars pulled over in a safe spot, she apologised profusely to the other woman. After that, they spent around 40 minutes on their phones, sorting out all of their insurance and legal paperwork." A Mercedes representative arrived soon afterwards with a new car for the actress to drive home.
Johansson's publicist states, "The fender bender was induced by the paparazzi, who chased her for 45 minutes."" (Source)
This is really sad and one of the reasons I will never post any paparazzi photos on the site. So if you could not understand that before, I really hope you can now.

Besides, I started to sort out the affiliates and added the promised gallery updates - I uploaded 115 photos & HQs from the The Spongebob Square Pants Movie premiere back in 2004, 17 exclusive HQ photos from the UK premiere for The Island which were taken and donated by Carol Weber, new photos from the yet untitled Woody Allen project Scarlett is currently working on and lastly, 4 absolutely great and very promising-looking movie stills for Match Point (including the one on a corn field that was sent in by Maria). Enjoy!

'The Island' Accused of Being a Copy

Posted by Mel on 12 Aug 2005 ... 12 Comments

Movie giants DreamWorks and Warner Bros are being sued by the producers of a 1979 film, who claim the Ewan McGregor movie The Island is based on. A lawsuit was filed on Monday, alleging a number of similarities between The Island and Parts: The Clonus Horror - and a number of prominent movie reviewers agree. Both films are about a secret colony of clones bred to provide spare parts for humans. The suit also alleges the producers of Parts: The Clonus Horror showed the film to DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg - who was then at Paramount - in a bid to secure a distribution deal. The producers, Myrl A. Schreibman and Robert S. Fiveson, are seeking damages and part of the proceeds from Warner Bros and DreamWorks and have also asked the court to order the studio to withdraw the film and block further release. Fiveson, who first saw a trailer for The Island on the internet, says, "I though, 'That looks like a trailer to my movie,' right down to where key moments and shots were the same." A statement from DreamWorks insists, "The Island was independently created and does not infringe anyone's copyright."

    Scarlett Johansson's car boob

Posted by Mel on 29 Jul 2005 ... 11 Comments

Scarlett Johansson nearly crashed her car after being distracted by the sight of her own boobs on a giant Hollywood billboard.
The sexy star was forced to slam on the brakes when she saw how her breasts had ballooned massively in size on the promotional poster.
The 20-year-old beauty claims she was shocked because the poster, which promotes her new film 'The Island', had been digitally enhanced.
She said: "I was driving through Los Angeles and I look up and see the biggest photo of me I have ever seen in my life on a massive ad space.
"I screamed and slammed on the brakes, I couldn't believe it It's very strange to see my cleavage the size of a brontosaurus. My breasts were huge. "I had long hair and my goodness, I couldn't get past the cleavage.
"I was like, 'Look at me They wiped out my whole face Oh, that's not my face That's my cleavage' My cleavage was just huge".
Although 'The Island', co-starring Ewan McGregor has flopped at the box-office the poster has been a big hit in Los Angeles with loads of cars slowing down so fans can get a better look at Scarlett.

    Acting is pointless says Scarlett

Scarlett Johansson says she is not proud of her films and thinks acting is a relatively pointless profession.
In an interview with German daily Financial Times Deutschland, she said: "As actors, we make movies, we don't save lives. What I do, it's actually not that important."
She added: "I'm also not proud of my films. That was never a criteria."
She said she always just wanted to make movies that she herself would pay to see, adding: "I definitely want to be in a Tim Burton film. That's right at the top of my list."
She also revealed she would like to direct she added: "I would even make an advert if I had to, if it meant I could direct at least once. As long as it wasn't for tampons or something embarrassing."

    Video archive & gallery updated

Posted by Mel on 28 Jul 2005 ... 3 Comments

First of all, I installed a script that will now count the users that are browsing the site at the moment, so all the unnecessary pop-ups should be gone. Then I fixed some broken video files (including the video from The Early Show) and added a script that will count how many times a certain video has been downloaded already - this will probably help me to decide which ones to upload next. If you have a special request, feel free to leave it in the comments.

The official US poster for "A Good Woman" has been released - click here to see it. I don't really like it, but I have seen the movie and I have to say that it's awesome! Very funny, and the cast is great (especially Tom Wilkinson). Anyway, here's a list of updated or newly-added sections in our gallery:
  • The Island Press Conference

  • The Golden Globes 2005

  • Magazine Scans - Demi (Finland) - July 2005 (thanks to Julia for scanning and donating!)

  • Magazine Scans - CineLive (France) - July 2005

  • Magazine Scans - Elle - June 2004 (yes, I started to reupload the files that were previously in the gallery)

  • Studio (France) Magazine CD Interview (July 2005) (thanks to Maria!)

  • Magazine Scans - Celebrity - July 2004

  • Magazine Scans - Angeleno - February 2005 (thanks to Jen!)

Bad news - The Island flops!

Posted by Mel on 24 Jul 2005 ... 17 Comments

This is probably one of the biggest surprises of the summer for me, as THE ISLAND, a film that had been receiving some of the best pre-release buzz of any movie this summer, starring hottie Scarlett Johansson and directed by the man best known for generating hundreds of millions of dollars from his popcorn action flicks, Michael Bay, tanked with only $12M in its opening weekend, landing it in 4th place overall, just a tiny bit ahead of the BAD NEWS BEARS! Considering that the film cost about $120M, that is what they refer to in the biz as a "major bomb". That is, unless the film miraculously picks up audiences in the weeks to come, but somehow, that doesn't seem very plausible. It appears as though the old "people don't really care for science-fiction movies" adage has come true, once again. (Source)
This is of course a huge surprise to me, let's hope the movie does better next week.

Besides, I added new photos from TRL, scans from the August issue of Vanity Fair and the July issue of Entertainment Weekly and captures from the first online clip of Match Point that you can watch here (thanks to Maria for sending me the link!). Enjoy!

There are also new "on the set" photos from The Untitled Woody Allen Project, and The Movie Box has a new Japanese trailer for A Good Woman that features some new scenes.
In other news, Last Days Movie, the official website for the upcoming movie Last Days with Michael Pitt, says in his biography that he will starr in "Delirious" with Scarlett and Steve Buscemi (who was both in Ghost World & The Island with her). At the moment I do not know more, so if you have any information on it please email me. Meanwhile, you can check IMBDs subsite out.

  • "Ewan's A Hero!"

Posted by Mel on 17 Jul 2005 ... 2 Comments

EWAN McGREGOR's heroic instincts kicked in when he saw SCARLETT JOHANSSON hanging from a height while filming THE ISLAND - even though she had a harness which kept her out of danger.
The Scottish hunk couldn't bear to watch the actress dangling nine metres (30 feet) above the ground, and gripped onto her for dear life even though she was perfectly safe.
She recalls, "He was like, 'I can't let go. It's my human instinct. You're going to fall.' "It was very sweet of him. " (Source: Contact Music)

Actress isn't lost on 'The Island'

Posted by Riikka on 16 Jul 2005 ... 16 Comments

Movie offers 20-year old Scarlett Johansson the perfect opportunity to play first action-thriller role

Scarlett Johansson has played her share of ingenues in dramatic films such as "Lost in Translation" and "Girl with a Pearl Earring." Now, the 21-year-old beauty can add action heroine to her resume.

In "The Island," a futuristic action-packed spectacle from Michael Bay ("Armageddon," "Pearl Harbor") that was shot partly in Detroit, Johansson plays an escapee from a creepy underground factory. Together with another inmate (played by "Moulin Rouge's" Ewan McGregor), they are forced to fight for their lives against a squad of assassins on their trail. Quite a few of the chase scenes were filmed in downtown Detroit -- an impressive scene was shot at Clifford and Griswold streets -- and in the old train station.

At a news conference in New York with Bay, Johansson reveals she wanted to do an action film for a long time, but hadn't found a project that suited her until "The Island" came along.

"Every film I've done, I've played different characters with different kinds of directors," she says in her husky voice. "I love genre films, if they're good." ... Continue reading

Welcome to the new site! First of all, I'm really sorry that there is no new layout - I decided to focus on the content & the gallery first which I thought was more important. I worked really hard on the site, and updated nearly every section, especially the filmography & the press archive. This took longer than I expected, and I wanted to get the site back up before I leave for London on Monday - but I promise I will do my best and surprise you all with a great new layout when I return. Then I will also finish adding all of the info Maria had on her site - don't worry, NOTHING is lost! I have really big plans for the site, you can trust me. As for the gallery, I have added an incredible amount of new pictures, and I'd like to point out especially to all the new HQ stills for "The Island" - they are great and really want to make me see the movie more! You can see some previews below.

And lastly, I want to say a HUGE thank you to Maria, the previous webmistress - she is one of the nicest people I have ever met online and made this possible for me, and I wish her the absolute best for the future and her Sophia Myles site which you should all visit now!
