Another reason why Scarlett will attend the Academy Awards (Oscars): She will be one of the presenters!!

Friday, February 27, 2004
First of all, sorry to everyone I haven't answered back yet. And the links and affiliates I haven't yet added. I will do that soon.

Then, the new gallery is so easy to update I can't keep track with updating the new stuff here in the news section. In case you haven't noticed already I finished the Lost in Translation screen caps. You can find them here. As you can see I was maybe over-doing it a bit (over 600!!) but I couldn't bring myself to delete some of them.

Also, I have now added all the pictures from events in past years. And all the fanart/wallpaper. I have added most of the credits - only in the events category some are still missing.

Other categories that have quite a few new pictures: LiT Premiere in Venice, Photo Call in Venice, Fanart and Girl with a Pearl Earring. For GwaPE, thanks a lot Fabio for adding so many pictures.

Last Saturday, the winners for the Golden Satellite Award were announced. Scarlett was nominated for Best Supporting Actress but the winner was Patricia Clarkson.

Imdb reports that Scarlett upset Calvin Klein by not wearing one of their dresses to the Golden Globes (where she got quite some press). Since she also wore something else to the Baftas (Prada), where she won Best Actress, they expect her to wear Calvin Klein for the Oscars on Sunday. Even though Scarlett didn't get a nomination she'll attend because Lost In Translation is one of the contenders. Now that Scarlett has risen to stardom we can expect more rumours and stuff - which means that we won't always be able to know what is actually true. Whereas in the past articles about her were almost only written after a personal interview with Scarlett, now articles get written based on other articles. This means some articles portray Scarlett in a way that feels strange to those who have been following her career for some years.

Anyway, another rumour is that Sharon Stone who wants to produce a biopic about the late Lana Turner is interested in casting Scarlett.

Scarlett was awarded the Moussaieff Steinmetz Award for Special Achievement in Film during the BAFTA Awards ceremony on February 15. The award is a piece of jewelry set with 12.16 carats of diamonds, hand crafted by Alisa Moussaieff, brings together diamond encrusted Comedy and Greek Tragedy theatrical masks. Comedy’s eyes, set with rare natural brown diamonds, are smiling while Tragedy’s eyes, menacingly darker natural brown diamonds, are frowning. Together they look on the bright side surrounded by white marquise and brilliant cut diamonds. Alisa Moussaieff expressed her delight at having been asked to create such a special gift. “Diamonds and film have gone hand in glove since cinema began and it seems quite perfect to award a unique performance with a diamond gift.” A committee headed by Universal International Pictures CEO Stewart Till and Variety Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Peter Bart made the award to Johansson for her outstanding breakthrough in film in 2003.

I think Scarlett received the jewelry already at The London Party – the Pre-Bafta Party. Because on some of the pictures you can see that she’s wearing it.

Jesica from Kirsten Dunst dot Org made my site 'Site of the Moment'. Thank you. Her site is now also part of my affiliates.

The following is a bit late I know, but Scarlett is AskMen.Com's Actress of the Week. Please visit their feature:

Breaking news: Scarlett has been signed up by Calvin Klein: as the face for their new fragrance. The new fragrance will be launched this fall and shooting for the campaign begins in March. Photographer Peter Lindbergh will shoot the print campaign and Neil Kraft of Kraftworks will serve as Creative Director for the television campaign.

Scarlett's reaction: Just when I thought things couldn't get better, something like this happens. Being associated with Calvin Klein is a real thrill.

Why Calvin Klein chose Scarlett: Scarlett is a talented young force that exudes a sophistication and confidence that is not readily seen today and, she balances it all with a relaxed attitude and a sense of humor. - Kim Vernon, Senior Vice President of Global Communications & Advertising for Calvin Klein, Inc.
Calvin Klein has an incredible history of featuring up-and-coming talent in ads. We made the decision to sign Scarlett because she is so of the moment: hip, fresh with an urban sophistication. Scarlett is a rising star, and we are very excited to work with her. - Laura Klauberg, senior vice president, marketing of Unilever Cosmetics International.

Thank you Ruth from DiscoverKate for all the pictures you've added to the gallery. See them here. Other pictures added by various users: Nadine and Fabio.

Among the pictures added by Ruth are also some of Scarlett at the Brit Awards last night. She presented the Best Album award to The Darkness. According to reports, Scarlett was wearing the same dress Britney Spears wore in Cannes to attend the NRJ music awards. If you don't believe it click this link. But I think it was very easy for Scarlett to unconsciously choose the same dress. Usually, the two are moving in two different worlds. The Brit Awards were one of the first - if not first-ever - times for Scarlett to atend a music event. And anyway, I don't think that wearing the same dress is a shame - maybe if it's the same event then it can get awkward...

GOOD NEWS!! Scarlett won a Best Actress Award at the BAFTAs last night! Thisislondon.Co.Uk names Scarlett the queen of the Baftas. They also have her acceptance speech: "This is really unexpected. Thank you Bafta for recognising me as a 19-year-old American actress. I want to thank my mother Melanie for supporting me and being there for me, taking me to auditions and buying me a hotdog afterwards." Empire Online reports that Scarlett and Bill Murray winning Best Actor/Actress Awards "provided two of the most touching speeches of the evening with Johansson emotionally thanking her mother "for driving me to auditions and buying me hotdogs afterwards," and Sofia Coppola reading a fax from Murray (who had just returned home after a six month shoot in Italy) praising Britain and, much to her embarrassment, extolling the virtues of his director."

I have added a few pictures here. Scarlett also attended the Pre-Bafta party on Saturday.

Last weekend, when John Travolta turned 50 his wife Kelly Preston lured him to to a resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, for what he was told would be "a relaxing weekend with a few pals". But what awaited him were 300 of the couple's most intimate friends for a weekend full of party. Among the guests was also Scarlett Johansson.

London Film Critics' Circle has announced their winners: Julianne Moore was named Best Actress in favour of Scarlett Johansson.

Next Sunday, the BAFTAs take place: It's confirmed that Scarlett will attend. EmpireOnline will cover the event and all of you in the UK, it will be aired on TV as well - with a delay of 2(!) hours. And - reported by Nadine - Australian TV will have the event aired on Monday night.

The new website GirlQuirk has awarded 'Dedicated to Scarlett Johansson' with some sort of special award. Thank you! Also Allstars Online, one of my affiliates, made this site their Site of the Month. Wow!

Rob has a beautifully written Scarlett biography up here.

I added more pictures: Set 'A Good Woman' and the 'Lost In Translation' DVD Features 'Lost' on Location and Deleted Scenes. If someone would be able to get large versions of the Set pictures, that would be great!

Hi again! I almost forgot this very important bit about the gallery: THANK YOU very much Julio for installing the whole gallery!!

Some news - I think they might be just gossip, but you can never be sure:

Elizabeth Taylor is rumoured to finally agreeing on an authorized movie about her life. The 71-year-old Oscar-winner, who so far has rejected all plans for such a movie, is reportedly keen to cast Scarlett Johansson as herself. Well, if this isn't just a rumour this would be quite something to look forward to!

The other news is that Scarlett was diagnosed with a heart murmur on the day of 'Lost In Translation' DVD Launch (Tuesday a week ago). Even though it might sound dangerous it is apparently harmless.

Okay people the multimedia section is open. There are plenty of pictures even though I haven’t yet uploaded all of them. There are some new pictures as well: New screen captures for An American Rhapsody, Eight Legged Freaks, Ghost World, Just Cause, Manny & Lo and North. Some of those aren't yet finished, but I thought since the gallery was down for so long, I'll upload them anyway.

There are also pictures of Scarlett at the Lost in Translation DVD Launch Party, at the 10th Annual BAFTA/LA Tea Party, at the Golden Globes and at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards.

What is also still missing is the credits for some of the pictures. I'll add those asap.

News for 'Synergy':
A report of the script at ign.com tells us that Scarlett's role name is Alex and that she is 18. We also learn that the young boss (with whom Alex starts an affair) has a wife. And Yahoo! News reports today that she'll be played by Selma Blair.

And some more info about the much talked-about last scene in 'Lost In Translation' (from Variety):
It was kind of all accidents," she said. "(The movie) wasn't story-boarded. There was a lot of running around Tokyo seeing what we could find. In all the scenes there was always a surprise."
One instructed surprise was the kiss between Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, which wasn't written into the script. "I asked him to kiss her, so she was really surprised. She wasn't expecting that," Coppola said.

I have been getting quite some emails asking about the gallery. At the moment everything concerning webspace and bandwith is okay. The problem is about a technical thing because we’ll have a new professional gallery system. I’m sorry for the long delay.

In the meantime check out that photograph from Vanity featuring Scarlett at Empire.

Movieline has got a shortened version of their Scarlett feature online. You can find it here. Thank you Steven for the info.

Yesterday, Video/DVD for 'Lost In Translation' was released in the USA! The launch party took place at Koi Restaurant in Los Angeles. It was an evening of sushi, sake, and celebration. From the film Sofia Coppola, Ross Katz, Scarlett Johansson and Anna Faris attended and there were some other celebrities (Dustin Hoffman, Francis Ford Coppola, Anjelica Huston, Gary Busey, Stephen Dorff, Talia Shire) as well.

On Friday, Vanity Fair's Annual Hollywood Edition goes on sale. This year they gathered 13 Hollywood leading ladies such as Julianne Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Aniston, Alison Lohman, Hilary Swank - and.... Scarlett Johansson! The report about the shooting features this Scarlett bit:

Hilary Swank took "some of the best behind-thescenes pictures of the day and was first on hand to help a windswept Scarlett Johansson re-arrange her fairytale dress".
Sweet. And what about 19-year-old Johansson herself, the acclaimed star of Lost In Translation and Girl With A Pearl Earring?
"On discovering a goldenhued gown and a brand-new iPod in her dressing room, Johansson reacted with enthusiasm worthy of, well, a teenager," says Vanity Fair.
