Well it makes proper sense why they wanted Scarlett on the board <vbg>

It could very well do a LiT or Far From Heaven and do the festival tour before it gets a limited release at Christmas, etc.

Venezia Orizzonti
A section aiming to provide a picture of the new trends in cinema. Feature-length films in 35mm will be presented as a world premiere or at least never publicly screened outside their country of origin and in Italy.

This is actually not the same category as 'Lost in Translation' was shown last year.

What a year!!! A year ago, 'Lost in Translation' hadn't been screened and Scarlett was pretty much still unknown (in the public). And now, it's impossible not to think of 'Lost...' and Scarlett is sitting in the Festival jury! I'm looking forward to 'A Love Song for Bobby Long' it sounds interesting and different to Scarlett's other projects.
Now I knew in some article was something about this, but it has taken me ages to find it (gladly, I have a search option, but still). Here it is:
Quote:
The first thing people usually respond to in Johansson's work is how understated and quiet she is, and one critic at the festival, while praising her It Girl performances, wondered aloud whether she could do anything else: She now needs to try a role, he thinks, where she is aggressive and active. Johansson, who did play a teenage sexpot in "The Man Who Wasn't There," says she may have found it in the film she just finished shooting in New Orleans, "A Love Song for Bobby Long," in which she costars with another happily married older man, John Travolta, on whom she admits a major crush.

Wasn't LiT going for the Golden Lion last year? Because the fact it won awards at the VFF gives me the impression it was in that section.

I wish they'd release a preview for Bobby Long - at the moment there's a lot of anticipation for this little indie film - not only because of its stars but because it's also the first project out of the William Morris agency production company.

About the awards, I'm not 100 % sure - it's only from memory. LiT was an audience hit, but surprisingly the film itself didn't win anything. But Scarlett won the Upstream Prize as Best Actress. (in the Golden Lion section this award is called 'Coppa Volpi')
And LiT was shown in the category 'Controcorrente (Upstream)'.
Last year's awards:
http://www.labiennale.org/2003/en/cinema/news/sep2003/6-09u.html

I think the Upstream category isn't listed as such, but the films are in the category: 'Venezia 61 - out of competition'.

And yes, we want a preview of ALSFBL!!!!

Ah k, thanks for clearing that up.

I remember distinctly the premiere of it and it being screened in Venice just completely forgot which section it was in

ok, found this at Italian Yahoo!
http://it.movies.yahoo.com/5/6/43466.html

Sadly, my last Italian lesson was 5 years ago, so.... But it says something like this:

After the death of her mother, Purselane Hominy Will (say: Pursy) decides to return to the town of her childhood and to settle down in the house her mother had lived in. Pursy thinks the house is abandoned, but when she arrives she finds two men who have been living in the house for some years and who have no intention of leaving it. (Now here comes the part I don't really understand)..... Bobby Long - an ex-Professor for Literature and Lawson Pines ....... and during her stay she discovers a secret that could change her life forever.

Sounds good - except the names, who is called like that? Purselane Hominy Will, Bobby Long and Lawson Pines????

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 2004--Emmett/Furla Films, a wholly owned subsidiary of Family Room Entertainment Corporation (OTCBB:FMLY), is very excited to announce that "LOVE SONG FOR BOBBY LONG" has been accepted and will premiere at this year's Venice Film Festival. I agree with the names. They sound very lame! The names I wrote in my screenplay that still is in the works are basically references to film stars and some noted Hollywood figures and my favorite DPs.
